Yellowstone: Predators

These are probably the most exciting encounters - seeing the big predators out in the wild. (As long as you are not the prey.) We haven't seen any bears this time around, but we did see a few coyotes, including this guy who was standing just across the river from the main road and munching on a marmot:

In Lamar Valley, far in the distance, we saw a resident pack of wolves. Unfortunately, the air was hot and so the pictures are not too sharp:

And then there are the avian predators. (I had a few good pictures left unpublished, so I thought I'd stick them here!) This one is a red-tailed hawk. In the west, they are much darker than they are here in northeast:

And this is an Osprey - one of few cases where I managed to get a reasonably crisp shot of it in flight:
