As much as I hate to wake early, I have to admit that the earliest trips are the most interesting - the ideal time being right after the sunrise. Once in a while I try to get to a little park in Hudson County for an hour or so before going to the office. This works much better in the winter, but even in other seasons there is a lot of things to see. I have to say, it's a really good way to start a work day! Worth at least two cups of coffee.
This is what I saw the last time - it's a Green Heron. It's what they call "widespread but not common" - actually a very secretive bird that's hard to catch. Being able to catch it this close and in such good light was definitely amazing!
Here's the second amazing catch - how often are you able to photograph fish? I don't know what kind of fish this was, but there was several of them fighting with each other and jumping out of the lake from time to time.
This guy is a Black-Throated Blue Warbler. You can see them in our area during migration, in May and September:
